![]() The second was too loud, and my voice was distorting, and then the third was just right. In the tests I've made in Figure 5, you can see that the first test was too soft - the wave form is too short. Place on Timelineĭrag the media clip down to the timeline to evaluate the sound a look of the clip. Once the recording is finished, Camtasia will pop up the project window, and the recording will show up in the Library. You can use the menu pull-down (the one that looks like a movie film clip), or you can use the keyboard shortcuts ![]() In subsequent recordings, there are two other ways to start. You can start recordin gby hitting the red button. There's nothing worse than doing a great take, only to find out that you are set to the wrong audio input. Whenever I start a new camtasia session, I always make a short test to confirm that everything is recording fine. You can adjust the levels in System Preferences > Sound > Input. You should get a little red in the signal when you are speaking loudly, but it should not go all the way into the red. Check your levels and make sure that you have a good strong signal. You should be using an external microphone (even though the screenshot shows the use of built-in microphone). There are two things we need to do with the audio settings. Make sure to set the input to some kind of external microphone, since the built-in mic (as this screen shows) would produce too much keyboard noise and low quality. You can see the audio settings, including the levels and the audio source. You can set the aspect ratio with the left-hand pull-down. Make sure to hide other programs, and to set your desktop to a plain grey.įigure 5 Here is the Recorder. We want a nice clean background behind the window, particuarly if we record a full screen and may show what's behind the active window. This means we'll often be doing some zooming in Camtasia to direct the viewer's eye to the important par of the screen. The website and DVD, however, will be showing the movies at half that size - 720 x 360. We are recording at 1280 x 720, and we may do some distribution of these files at that size. Is such a case, you would want to record a full screen and do the crop later. In the case of recording Lightroom, however, you can't shrink the program down to fit in that height. I suggest you record at 1280 x 720, of you can make that correspond to the window size you'll be working with. We can crop that down in Camtasia, if necessary. A Macbook or Macbook Pro13 has a screen that is 1280 x 800, which is just a little bit too tall. When you make your recordings, you'll want to record at a similar aspect ratio, so that it is proportional. We are producing these movies at a size of 1280-720 pixels, and we will shrink them down to half that size for inclusion on the site. Let's talk about aspect ratio for a minute. The first is the area to record, and the second is the audio input and levels. There eare basically two things you need to pay attention to in the recorder.
