Surprised to learn that the source of Metatron was actually the abandoned Jehuty, Dingo hops aboard the frame and races to save his friends to stop BAHRAM before they can take Jehuty themselves. While he's investigating a hidden source of the energy ore known as Metatron, his mining team is ambushed by the same villainous army from the last game BAHRAM. Following his battle with the powerful OF known as Anubis, the unlikely hero Leo Stenbuck fell into obscurity with plenty of mysteries and an obvious segue into this latest installment.Īs the new adventure begins, the story switches to the perspective of Callisto Ice Miner Dingo Egret. As veterans of the previous title may remember, Zone of the Enders came to its conclusion when the Orbital Frame robot known as Jehuty was whisked away by the United Space Force battleship Atlantis. Taking place two years after the events of the first game in the year 2174, The 2nd Runner answers a lot of questions left by the original. Story An enormous aspect of that experience is the meticulously thought-out plotline. And despite what nagging similarities Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner may share with the first game in terms of control problems, one point has to be recognized: ZOE2 is a damn fine videogame experience. More characterization, a deeper battle engine, hidden bonuses, and a myriad of graphical improvements are only a smidgen of what the developers have done to improve on the original. Dingo's an exceptionally good pilot. With 24 months of user feedback and industry denigration, however, Konami of Japan has returned to its universe with a newfound ambition: To make ZOE the game it was supposed to be. From what I've read, though, it's less that she's a weak pilot because of that, and more like Dingo's the only guy who's used to manual transmission and uses that advantage to make fun of everyone using automatic. Dingo, on the other hand, can handle piloting on his own, leaving the AI able to help with fancier stunts. Not raw skill, exactly, but she can only fly with AI assist on, like most frame runners. (Of course, she's also got her flaws as a pilot. Something that can annihilate a solar system the way Nohman plans to is working with some very impressive power. I might have given Ken too little of a chance.Īnd I certainly underrated Anubis and Jehuty. It also has a pretty powerful laser attack.ĭidn't rate it much at first, but seeing how the pro Xenogears side's been arguing. Her mech mainly fights using swarms of attack drones, which is maybe not the best weapon against a pilot who can make Jehuty fire swarms of homing lasers, and by moving so fast it leaves afterimages, which would work better if she wasn't fighting (You Shut Up I'm) Dingo Egret. The fact it can put up a fight makes it at least reasonably badass (With a rookie pilot, Jehuty treats Cyclops Orbital frames like jokes, and the Fist of Mars tactics game for GBA has those be nightmarish engines of destruction). Ken's mech is a boss in Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner, so we mostly only see how it compares to basic Jehuty outside of the vs mode. We don't have a ton of objective destruction feats for normal gears honestly, but hers obviously has some omph. Normal gears in-universe would be killed in one attack by those, she does manage to pretty much beat Fei until her conditioning wears off and she stops, and she does get stronger/more skilled/more powerful than that fight too. It's hard to get a fix on exactly how strong they are, but she's an elite soldier and a very crack shot. Her gear isn't even a power based one- it's main combat ability is Aerods, or basically Gundam Bits, remotely controlled beam guns. That's gotta be thousands of tons shifted, so engine-wise it's pretty gear. Elly's on her own manages to direct it further from the civilian areas before she runs out of power too. Three gears start pushing it out of the way, and nudge it some, but two overheat. There's a very large airship converted to a bomb and crashing into a city. That said, there is a good feat that shows how much power Elly in Vierge has. Elly only pulls out stuff like that when injured pretty much. Of note, the 'shutting down Ramsus's omnigear' was only when under duress (after she'd been squished some), and the destroying two elite henchmen was after she was in duress *and* in her omnigear. There are so many parts of the game where if you had that level of destructive power the plot would not happen. Destroying a *planet* is a cataclysmic amount of power in the game. Fei does not create and destroy entire galaxies with his spells.
